Inchicurry - Onam Sadhya Recipes



Ginger 30-40 gm
Green chillies 2-3
Salt to taste
Coconut oil 20-30 ml
Mustard seed a pinch
Red chillies 10-20 gm
Fenugreek 2-3 gm
Tamarind 10-15 gm
Sugar 5-10 gm
Curry leaves a few

  • Chop,cleanly peeled ginger and soak in a little hot water.Finely chop green chillies.
  • Add ginger(drained),chillies,curry leaves into a pan.
  • Add a little water and salt into it.
  • Cook slowly till dry.
  • Powder fine roasted red chillies and funugreek seeds.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when they crackle and the cooked ginger mix.
  • Mix evenly till it turns reddish brown, remove from fire.Soak Tamrind in a little hot water.
  • Add red chillies,fenugreek powder and tamrind water.
  • Put the pan in fire, add a bit of sugar and bring to boil.
  • Simmer for a few minutes, remove from fire.

My Mother-in-law makes this for every Sadhya...but have never tried it b4.....this yr i am organizing every thing for Vishu all by myself for the 1st time in my life......(PS have seen Mother in law doing it once only!!!).....will try makin it this yr...n let u knw hw it turns out!!!

also....instead of choppin ginger...last yr i suggested why not use grated ginger.....turned out tastier as per my husband who is a fan of this thing since his childhood!!!
